Integrating Gait Analysis into Multidisciplinary Sports Injury Management

Zoe Wilson

Zoe Wilson is Owner and Lead Podiatrist at ZW Clinics, specialising in Musculoskeletal Podiatry and Biomechanics. In addition to her clinical work, Zoe is a highly acclaimed speaker and educator, regularly leading her own courses and sharing her knowledge and passion with peers across the profession.

In this lecture, Zoe will focus on sports-related injuries, outlining the gait assessment techniques she uses and how they inform her treatment decisions. She will also share insights into her multidisciplary clinics, highlighting how their collaborative approach supports effective management of challenging cases.

Lower Limb Stress Fractures: Focus on Foot & Ankle Overload

Stefan Kluzek

Dr Kluzec is a Consultant in Sport and Exercise Medicine at Oxford University Hospitals NHS Trust, and a Senior Physician for the English Institute of Sport and the British Olympic Association. His area of clinical expertise is in the diagnosis and treatment of problems arising from the musculoskeletal system, including arthritis, muscle, tendon and joint injuries, with a special emphasis on preventing injury progression and improving recovery outcomes.

Shifting the focus slightly from pure gait analysis, this lecture will cover the pathophysiology, diagnosis, and management of lower limb stress fractures, with particular emphasis on biomechanical factors, foot and ankle overload and underlying systemic contributors

Rehabilitation Versus Surgery for Non-Acute ACL Injury

David Beard

David Beard is Professor of Musculoskeletal & Surgical Sciences at the Nuffield Department of Orthopaedics, Rheumatology and Musculoskeletal Sciences in the University of Oxford, and Professor of Surgical and Complex Trials at the University of Sydney. His current research interests include surgical clinical trials methodology, outcome measurement in MSK health and work related to long duration space flight.

This lecture will present his recent research on anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury management. His extensive work, including the ACL SNNAP trial, has provided valuable insights into the comparative effectiveness of surgical reconstruction versus non-surgical rehabilitation for non-acute ACL injuries. This session will delve into how these findings can inform clinical decision-making and optimise patient outcomes in ACL injury treatment

The Future of Clinical Gait Analysis

Trevor Prior

Mr Trevor Prior is one of the UK’s leading Podiatric Surgeons, specialising in sports injuries, biomechanics, foot surgery and orthoses. In addition to his clinical work, Trevor is a Senior Clinical Lecturer in Sports Medicine at Queen Mary University of London.

In this session, he will examine recent advances in gait analysis, comparing current technologies and methodologies. He will evaluate their clinical utility, highlighting which tools are ready for use, which show future promise, and which remain unproven. The talk will focus on how to integrate innovation into real-world diagnosis and treatment planning without losing sight of clinical practicality.
